Jordan played running back on the 1973 freshman team. He was the leading rusher on the freshman team with 277 yards on 52 carries. In 1974, he moved to defense in spring practice and played in every game in the fall as a sophomore. Jordan had one interception and 29 tackles in the season in that year. In 1975, he earned a starting job at left cornerback during spring practice. He was listed as the number one free safety. Paul majored in Physical Education. He was selected first team All-American by Gridiron and Kickoff magazines while playing at Sycamore High School.
