Dave Riley had a successful freshman year with the junior varsity team in 1974. Dave rushed for 108 yards on 20 carries and one touchdown in three games. In 1975, Dave was listed as secondary defensive. He had 246 yards rushing in two spring games. Dave played in all 12 games in 1975. In 1976, Dave was listed as number two fullback, he was moved back to running back in that spring after playing in the defensive secondary. In 1976, Dave started three games and played in all 11 and rushed for 214 yards in that year. Dave was listed as number one tailback in 1977, he gained 83 yards in Blue-Gold Game in the spring of 1977. Dave majored in Physical Education. Dave was lettered in football and basketball for state champion Northfork High School. He was picked prep All-American in football.
