Nabors graduated from Dunbar High School with four letters in track and went to track regionals and states. Nabors came to WVU in 1975, when the university did not have a varsity women's track and field team. After one year at the club level, Nabors saw the establishment of the intercollegiate women's track and field team in the 1977-1978 school year. She was one of the first African-American student athletes in the program. Her senior year, Nabors was a returning co-captain who held the record in the shot put. She was described by Coach King as a hard worker.
