A Brief History of Women’s Tennis at West Virginia University
Women’s tennis was established at West Virginia University in 1973. Tennis initially had started out as a Fall sport which achieved success in its second year with a 15-0 record and its only WVWIAA title. The team was initially coached by Martha Thorn.
First African-American to Play Women’s Tennis at West Virginia University
Shirley Robinson was the first African-American athlete to participate in women’s tennis at West Virginia University, in 1981.
