Harvard was an All-State third team player at Weir High on a team that advanced to the Class AAA finals. At Weir, Harvard also played football and ran track. In his freshman season at WVU, his best game was a 20-point performance against George Washington. As a sophomore he saw brief action in 7 games. He was considered a little hustler and defensive specialist who perked up the team when he was there. As a junior Ed played in 13 games and was used primarily as a defensive specialist. His hustle and quickness made him a good gang-buster.
