Workman brought outstanding credentials from McKinley High School, where she participated in high school track and volleyball. As a sophomore, she turned in superlative times in the 100- and 200-meter dashes while lending a hand to the 400-yard relay team. She was considered one of the team's top sprinters heading into her junior year and had the competitive spirit to drive the team to succes. That year, she established WVU records in the 400-meter dash,and 100-, 200-, and 400-meter relays. She was also named to the All-Eastern team. Returning her senior, year it was believed she was going to be one of the Mountaineers' top performers.
