Larry was an All-State and All-American performer at Costa High School . His junior year he transferred to WVU from Southeastern Iowa Community College where he banged home an average of 23.3 points and pulled down 12.5 rebounds per game. Coach Waters thought he would have given the team good size in the backcourt. His first year at WVU he was the second leading scoring averaging 14 points per game. Returning his senior year he was considered one of the regular cornermen and had been deemed to have made the transition well from junior college to major college basketball. It was believe d he was going to be even better his senior year. Although he was capable of playing the guard position and was going to see some action there the Mountaineers already had four reliable men at guard and would be needed on the frontline. In the 1970 NBA Draft, he was chosen by the Buffalo Club as the 8th pick on their expansion team. His senior season he averaged 11.9 points a game, shot 43.6 percent from the field, and 73.2 percent from the foul line, and led the Mountaineers in rebounds with 236 in 26 games.
