At Carver High School he was first team All-State in football and basketball. Also, he was an honorable mention All-American in both sports. He was a great pass receiver his freshman year. He caught 12 for 287 yards and scored four touchdowns as a split end. He was considered to have a great ability to be a fine athlete but still had to realize his potential and play to it.
