Chris moved up to the varsity as the third string right guard in 1974. He was one of the best prospective linemen from the 1973 freshman team. Chris was switched from defense to offense during the spring of 1974. Chris was selected all-Greater Dayton while playing for Trotwood Madison Senior High. The WVU Coach Bowden mentioned "Chris is big and strong and only lacks experience. He will have to patient next year as we are in no hurry to rush him."
